on '40 Things to Give Up for Lent'

Going through 40 things to give up for lent via email devotionals. Don't know if I'll post here every day, but here's my response to the first, "Fear of Failure." Turns out I'd already been working on Joshua 1 (one of the texts for today), but hadn't done the application yet.

Now I have. Journaling that is on my layout follows.

Just as I have been with Moses (v. 5)
My first thought was, 'so He's there as long as we're under His command,' and that would be true as long as there was obedience.
But that's not what it says or means. (i.e. I was wrong)
1- He's promised to be with us, period.
2- Moses disobeyed, and God was still there leading Moses in the way he should go.

Have I not commanded you? (v. 9)
Reminds me of his statement just preceding in v 8, If we're in the Word and carefuthen you will 'make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.'
l to obey,
He let's us know it won't be easy -- why else say, BSAC (be strong and courageous), do not tremble or be dismayed (the opposite of BSAC). Why? The Lord is with you wherever you go.
